Maximum Vibes
Menorca is pretty stunning!
Greetings from Menorca! I’m here for the RAW Photo Fest that’s taking place from the 7th to the 10th May. If you’re here, come and say hi! I’m the guy handing out yellow flyers about a podcast* :)
I’ve been here since the weekend, trusty M11 in hand, but as this is a promotional and social trip I’ve also allowed myself to bring the Sofort 2. Using this camera is always a treat, and up to now I thought of it as a printer more than a camera. In that sense it’s the most versatile camera in Leica’s lineup! All their cameras can make pictures, but only this one can make pictures.
Sofort 2
For an afternoon at the beach with family, the M11 seemed like both overkill and at risk from sand, so the Sofort became the primary camera for the rest of the day. Later, while the boys played in the sea I started to flick through the images from the comfort of an overpriced sun lounger and grinned. Sofort 2 is the perfect beach cam. Maximum vibes, low stakes fun captured in the moment without taking you out of the moment, your favourites selected and turned into cute prints later over dinner.
Despite the low megapixel count, there’s much fun to be had with the combination of filters and effects which are handily accessed using the dial on top and around the lens ring on the front.
My favourite combination is the black and white filter with a glitch like colour effect applied.
Glitch effect applied to a photo of me and Tom Oldham. More on him later :)
The rest of the week will involve prep for the festival and a number of interviews. I’m hoping to get to sit down with Alex Webb, Steve McCurry and friend of the show Daniel Milnor amongst others.
Then, no sooner is RAW over than it’s time for Photo London, this year in a new home at The Excel. Friend of the show and former guest Tom Oldham is giving a talk in association with Wex on the 16th and if you’d like to attend for free, you can. Spots are limited so this promises to be a fun little chat about photography with hopefully a smattering of the finest Sony gear.
Shhh, don’t tell the boss!
