The Nights are Drawing in

The Autumn is most definitely here. In Scotland the clocks have changed, the nights are drawing in and the wood fire has been lit a couple of times already.

With less great light available, it’s the perfect time to think about drawing the curtains of an evening and watching a movie so here are three that I wanted to share, starting with something it’s worth you watching ahead of the episode this Sunday.

Everything Happens all the Time is a documentary made by Simon King and it’s available to watch in full on YouTube. Simon has spent a lot of time around the street photo scene in London and the film is an insight into how some of that community think about the work they’re making.

Next up, Jeff and Susan Bridges are on a very analogue adventure with Charys and Marwan from Silvergrain Classics. They’re bringing back the Widelux camera as the WideluxX. I’ve spoken about that project on the show and on YouTube previously, and this past weekend attended a screening of a documentary in Frankfurt.

If you’re in Germany you can watch the doc online now. It’s well worth seeing.

Lastly, A Century of Vision is a documentary I was able to see last year in Germany at the Leica 100th Anniversary. With Leica in the title it could easily be dismissed as a fluffy marketing piece, and I think that’s what a room full of photographers and journalists assumed at the event when we saw it, but once it started you could hear a pin drop. A beautiful and thoughtful film it features some wonderful photographers and previous guests. It will be in cinemas in Germany in November with distribution in Spain, Italy, Japan and then worldwide in the works. I loved it and can’t wait to see it again.

Trips like the recent one I went to in Germany to interview some future guests at Leica and are possible because folks back the show on Patreon. Thanks for listening, signing up and sharing in this project.
